fredfades is a norwegian producer specialising in the uncut raw hip hop. here’s his debut solo album, “warmth”. it is making my blood boil. man, my jaw is hanging down listening to this stuff. read the email from butthole surfers man and producer, paul leary, when he heard the demo for what would become the debut philipp gorbachev & the naked man album. philipp gorbachev, the russian musician and dj, has been throwing killer parties and making some of the most innovative and exciting electronic music to come out of moscow in years. in 2014 he released his debut album silver album but when invited to perform a live boiler room he had something else in mind: a band scenario. the resulting concoction was not something locked into a 4/4 beat but rather a much more organic, groove-based sound with funk-strutting bass lines and live drums that rolled and flurried around the beats that jumped around leading the charge of the songs along with gorbachev’s damo suzuki-like vocals. taking that experiment into the studio, i dont give a snare is a wild ride that jumps genres, switches paces and alters tones frequently. the opening goodman exploding in intense rhythms and heavy, spiralling riffs that at times recall sabbath but the ever-shifting drums and gargling electronics give a wonky freshness that feels impossible to place into genre. whilst gorbachev cites a range of influences from beck to blind willie johnson as being core to him, the primary motivation is the live nature of the project itself. the main influence is the constant live experience we have as music players and performers. i want to get the most out of every party, every jam, and every dancefloor.

mugwumps subfield label introduces its first signings with the belgian-italo duo front de cadeaux (brilliantly named after the belgian ebm pioneer group front 242). front de cadeaux are dj athome & dj hugosan. hugo runs the roccodisco label with italian disco mastermind rodion (gomma/nein) while belgian killer dj athome has been spinning italo wave & house in brussels since the 90 s. they expertly produced their own brand of supreme rallentato, which is a fucked-up slo-mo italo, acid, disco, techno and house hybrid that so rightly fits with subfield s mission statement of covering subgenres. their 2 first outings on roccodisco have been remixed by fabrizio mammarella and optimos jd twitch, and a staple in ivan smagghes sets. this full ep on subfield features 2 original f2c obscene & dirty slo-mo tracks at their most playful, ouvre ta bouche and front de cadeaux theme plus the magnificent dub-house of killers. remixes comes courtesy of factory floor s gabe gurnsey (dfa) in a quite brutal bleep-techno mood and manchester s nu-balearic kingpin ruf dug (music for dreams), getting into what he described as a 808 snare roll warehouse analog fucked-up version.

we are happy to introduce you to the second ep from by dc salas on biologic records, the label that he co-founded and manages with the french producer abstraxion. they celebrated their 10 year anniversary at the end of 2015 and continue to release a string of eps to mark the occasion. ‘when you left’ is an ep that overcomes sadness. times can be rough, but it never lasts forever. this original material is complemented by two powerful remixes: one from the mysterious cliff lothar, who is supported by people as diverse as john talabot, delta funktionen and radiohead’s thom yorke. the second remix is done by the australian producer inkswel (bbe). this ep is an important step for the producer as he prepares his debut album ‘the unspoken’ which will be announced by biologic records in the coming months. pressing on transparent green vinyl.

the first spinning plates ep back in february was picked up by print media and radio tastemakers from ra and dj mag to b.traits and moxie, whilst djs as diverse as ivan smagghe and francois k slotted it into their dj bags. as such there has been much demand for a second release, and now it arrives in the form of a fascinating split ep from scene veteran andy rantzen and relative newcomer bruno schmidt, who helps a&r for the label. in fact it was bruno who came across andy’s tracks during a late night youtube session. andy, who remixed inxs and severed heads back in the day and is a sydney based producer who has been active for three decades, had upped a load of his old demos to youtube in the faint hope that one day someone might find them. and damn are we happy he did, because they are brilliant affairs that sound like little else. for his part, bruno has been a louche resident and hifi creator alongside andrew james gustav and gwenan and delivers an exceptional stripped down late night trip/early morning trip.

the double drop label present the second of three parts from the invisible cities collective, made up of luca c & brigante plus guests. following the summers moments in between (featuring ivan smagghe remixes), in my garden finds the guys carving a sumptuous slo-mo house groove, with a rather special secret collaborator on vocal duties. the result is something lush and unique. the original is backed with a fine interpretation from the mole, and the super cool edge of our love completes the package. the new music from invisible cities doesnt stop there. next up is part 3, sunkissed with remixes from apiento and special dubs from mad professor.

after the success of the first release by ivan iacobucci, holic trax sublabel monoklo now enlists berlin-based martin lewis for three hot tracks featuring a remix from label boss man and japanese don tomoki tamura. no nonsense opener the wax is a supple, rubbery roller with sparse stabs accompanying the infectious groove. -poetry- then sinks down into a more warming and human groove, with smeared synths bringing colour and heat to a loose house groove, before lewis shows his skills at choppy techno with drumcatch. tomoki tamura also remixes this latter track, stripping it right back to a suggestive, infectious final groove with feather light percussion, skewed chords and involving sub bass that laps at the heels of the track.

dj ralf is the italian icon who runs the much loved laterra recordings label and management, and is now back with ‘er suonone’, a new track from margot that is all set to be a late summer smash. anyone who has heard the legendary dj ralf (a cult figure who has been the subject of a documentary, has played all over the world, runs his own legendary bella ciao party and holds a cult residency in cocorico) play recently will most likely have heard this track in his set, and it has been an unknown but much loved secret weapon for a while now. as such this one sided vinyl pressing will please many people who have been hunting it down. margot, of course, is an italian pair of accomplished producers who have released on, les disques de la mort, hell yeah and border community and run their own margot records label. ‘er suonone’ is a pumping, deep, slow burning bit of cosmic house that builds and builds and teasers listens without ever releasing the pressure. monstrous kick drums drive it down below, pixelated stabs add suspense in the distance and icy hi hats slither in the foreground. it’s the sort of track to drop right at the peak time and it will surely go right off, with people fist pumping along to the groove.

transmitting from new york (via toronto), jex aka jex opolis has so far been known as the man behind and in front of the good timin label. infamous for its boogie burner bombs to quote discogs member kutter karlo jex, trades his label for running back and a shifts the gear. up with the tempo and down with the lights, there still is a variety of styles. studio e is named after an after hours spot in edmonton that the record s author partied at in the early 2000s, also sounds like something ivan smagghe would have enjoyed at that point in time. laxmi tool is referencing classic tribal house and a street in pune, where jex wifes grandma bought the drum used in this track. on the flip, harpa brags and boasts with its trampoline bass line, while la casa surfs some timpani waves.
